Program Specialist (Per Diem)

POSITION:     PROGRAM SPECIALIST (Per Diem)

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Program Manager, Hong Lok Senior Center

COMMITMENT (HOURS): 25 – 29 hours per week

STATUS: Non-Exempt (3 months orientation period)

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager of Hong Lok Senior Center, the Program Specialist performs a variety of outreach, direct service and administrative functions. Such functions include: providing case management for Chinese elders, conducting outreach meetings and activities in the Chinese community in order to build attendance of Chinese elders at the center, preparing Chinese-language materials, providing translation for Chinese elders, maintaining detailed records on clients and assisting in management and oversight of the Hong Lok Senior Center facility.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with planning, coordination, and implementation of project activities and special assignments such as outreach, recruitment and marketing to the Chinese elder community as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provides linkage to community resources for Chinese elders and assists them in applying for benefits.
  • Provides translation and interpretation for clients and staff, primarily in English and Chinese.
  • Assists in preparation of periodic reports.
  • Assists with oversight of senior center facility.
  • Provides computer training to the elders.
  • Other duties deemed necessary by the Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bilingual and bi-literate in Cantonese and English preferred.
  • Flexibility, initiative, creativity and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal relations.
  • Requires ability to communicate effective, both written and verbally.
  • Experience working with elderly/disabled preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to effectively set priorities with work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • To lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Ability to use a computer.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate through speech to clients, coworkers and other staff.
  • 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Ability to see and hear clearly in interaction with others. 

SALARY RANGE: Depends on experience.
